Below this line is one of two articles submitted to my campaign for posting here. And, I am happy to accept the request. Christian Perez is one of the best student writers I've seen, he's going places, I'm proud to be a part of his legacy in the making.

I believe the immigration ban that President Trump has instituted is completely

unnecessary and unconstitutional. Trump is discriminating against immigrants based on national

origin, something that has been outlawed since President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the

Immigration and Nationality Act in 1965.

Trump himself has even said he wanted to institute a "total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States" while running for President.

His excuse to make this sound legal was that he was doing this in order to protect the

country from terrorists. However, if this is the case then why didn't Trump prevent the entry of

immigrants from countries that actually attacked the United States in the past, like Saudi Arabia

who was one of the countries that caused 9/11.

None of the countries that are subject of the president's executive order have even committed terrorist acts in the United States. Furthermore, it's not fair that Trump has chosen 7 specific countries to prevent immigrants from coming to the U.S. He doesn't know their background stories and why they are fleeing their home countries in the first place. It could be for a better life or because they were in danger.

For example, one of the countries targeted is Syria. Currently, Syria is going through a

civil war that has caused the lives of hundreds of thousands of people. This war has caused

millions of Syrians to flee the country, something that has been dubbed the Syrian Refugee

Crisis. By blocking their entrance to the United States, Trump is putting the lives of many Syrians

in danger. In addition, the United States has been known as a nation built by immigrants and a

nation that provides opportunity. By allowing this immigration ban, the United States is straying

away from its roots and what it means to be an American.

Throughout the country there have been many uproars, with protesters gathering at the

nation's largest airports. This is something that I support and I think should be done to prevent

Trump from fully executing his plan. By rioting we can show the strength of the Constitution and

the separation of powers.

If we can stop the actions of the President, this would reflect the principle that we are a nation built on the rule of law, not the whims of a power hungry man.

I completely agree and I support young writers and students everywhere that choose to write about our government and the scourge around it's leadership. Together, me and the students at Cardozo's SCARS Club can change the world. It's OUR COMMUNITY and OUR STUDENTS, OUR FUTURE wants it back.

In 2018, vote Christopher Fuentes-Padilla for the Democratic Nomination to represent District 25 in the State Assembly and take our community back from those in Albany who oppress it.

Sincerely,

Christopher Fuentes-Padilla (D)

Candidate for State Assembly, District 25
